Very Busy Bees

We got back from WWOOFing in Cornwall having had the most fabulous time and totally enthused to garden and do stuff. As we missed Mummy bee’s actual birthday we came down in the morning of the next day and gave her our pressies for her. I had also spent a very early morning making a stealth birthday cake, which I surprised her with and we had lemon drizzle cake for breakfast.

We also went out with everyone, including Grandpa and Grandma, to the Tarka Inn and had a fantastic meal! Many laughs and silly photos were taken and we went home rather full and happy.

We started the day of the 4th (Matt's birthday) with pressies and kind of ended it with a huge jaffa cake! I think we may have started a new tradition after the success of the jaffa.

Here he is opening his pressies.

Here is Matt with the giant Jaffa!

A cut through of the jaffa!

We have also been crazily turning the house into a beautiful home which included many coats of paint and completely sanding the whole floor in the front room and then varnishing it as well. It has to be said that Dad (especially Dad), Kez (who valiantly did lots of the nasty painted edges) and Matt (who helped especially with hitting hundreds of nails back into the boards) worked like stink for two days to make it look beautiful. We then painted the living room walls and ceiling and I did all the woodwork.

Then the boys were given a little bit of time off while I varnished the floor. Before all this took place Mummy bee and Kez also primed and painted reams of bookcases! They all look fantastic and then they completed the room when we put them back and filled them with books. Me and Mummy bee spent a whole morning alphabetising them and the after a brain wave Mummy made patterns out of the books making them a feature of the room rather than part of the walls.I have to say that the room looks absolutely fab and we are due to do the same to the Dining room over the next couple of weeks. A man has been booked to fix the joist today and the wood that we need is also being delivered today ready to turn the dining room around! We are also planning to sand the hall at somepoint and replace some of the boards as they are not in good nick.

Here are some before piccys:

This is from 2009 december but it gives you some idea of what it looked like before

Another December shot but of the bookcases before they were painted

And here are some of the during pictures:
The boards after we removed the carpet

Matt punching the nails back into the boards, they had to use ear defender as the noise was horrendous

All of the boys (including Dad hehe!) punching the nails again there were hundreds and it took 1 and a half days to do.

Here are the boards after they were mostly sanded

Here are the boards after 2 coats of varnish and I am applying the third and final coat.

There will be some more piccys but unfortunately I need to actually take them first hehe!

So to be continued...........
